The Disney animated movie "Cars" is popular with both little boys and girls and is an often-requested theme for bedrooms. Disney merchandisers answered the call with bedroom furnishings, linens and accessories, so putting together a "Cars" room for a child is easily accomplished in a day. Use some restraint, however, when mixing and matching your decor. Too much of a good thing can tire even the biggest fan of the look.
Wall Decorations
Murals are making a comeback, and there is no faster or easier way to set the tone for a themed room. To create a "Cars" theme, use a Disney peel-and-stick movie mural. You can select from some bright and colourful closeups of some of the main characters in the movie or an image of some of the characters racing. Inexpensive and easy to apply, a mural provides an instant palette of colours for the room and quickly decorates a wall behind or beside a bed. Another way to get that Disney look in the room is to frame some "Cars" posters to hang on the walls, either with or in place of a mural. Movie posters can be found online or at home decor stores and frame up quickly in special poster frames. A perfect size for over a desk or between doorways, a movie poster can easily be switched to update the look.
Bedding and Curtains
Thanks to the movie's popularity, there is plenty of "Cars" merchandise out there to use for your child's room, including bedding. Although you can purchase complete patterned sets with the "Cars" motif, too much pattern can create a kitschy look in the room. Purchase a "Cars" comforter for the bed and use a coordinating colour in the bed linen to provide some needed rest for the eye. A "Cars" pillowcase can also be used, along with some coordinating solid-coloured pillows to finish off the bed. Curtains can be coordinated to match the bedding, most likely either in red or blue, but steer clear of "Cars" motif curtains to avoid that overly done look.
Accessories
Adding accessories to any themed room can be a lot of fun. Consider a "Cars" desk or table lamp, a "Cars" beanbag chair or a play chest shaped like a "Cars" character. Place some bookshelves in the room to hold "Cars" models and toys. A red or blue area rug near the bed can help tie the room together. If you want to carry the theme into an adjoining bathroom, use a "Cars" shower curtain or towel set.
